What is Virtual Family Math & Science Night?

Community events are a long standing tradition in SMILE clubs. While in-person gatherings were postponed during the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to get creative! In 2021 we hosted our first ever Virtual Family Math and Science Night, in which students took home kits of materials and joined a live Zoom call to experiment together from all over the state of Oregon. Going forward,  we are keeping the momentum going by creating an annual virtual event.

During the 2022 live, interactive, virtual event, participants will:
Interact with college students at OSU!
Engage in several hands-on STEM activities and share their results.
Learn about how we use our senses to interpret the world around us.
Learn about sensors we interact with in our daily lives and how they work.
Interact with OSU faculty and learn about how they use sensors in their research.

We have a number of ways that you and your family can learn and experiment from home.

Bingo Scavenger Hunt → Submission Form

Share your results before January 9th and you are eligible to win a prize from SMILE! We plan to collect the photos you take during the scavenger hunt and share them as one composite SMILE! Bingo Blackout card in the new year.
