Biodegradable plastic. In this lesson students learn how to create bioplastic (plastic derived from renewable sources). Using the engineering design process they will create, test, evaluate and improve a bioplastic utensil made from an animal, alga or plant source. The background material provides an opportunity to teach students about the difference between degradable, biodegradable and compostable plastic and their environmental impact.
