Believe-it-or-not, these teachers (left) are learning about carbon sequestration.

They're some of the 56 teachers from rural school districts across Oregon who attended the winter teacher training held by SMILE - Science and Math Investigative Learning Experiences, January 29-30. The workshop was supported in part by the Bioenergy Education grant. Teachers received training on several lessons including fermentation and biofuels, and glucose and bioenergy. The teachers take what they have learned back to their local SMILE clubs. Across the state, SMILE clubs serve about 600 rural Oregon 4-12 students.

A list of lessons can be accessed through the SMILE blog. Click here to see more photos of the workshop.

The next teacher training will be held in the spring. Stay posted for details.
